Today we had a bottle, vinegar, a balloon and baking soda.
We put vinegar into a dry water bottle. Into the balloon we put some baking soda. Very carefully we put the balloon onto the bottle. Then we tipped the balloon up so the baking soda went into the vinegar.
What did we think would happen?
- mixture will go white - Jaxon
- mixture will go all the way to the top - Briar
- when the mixture goes up it will go into the balloon and it will go up - Emma
- balloon will pop - Charlotte
The mixture fizzed and went white. There were lots of bubbles and the mixture went about half way up the bottle. The balloon went up!
Why did this happen?
The bubbles of gas popped and the gas went up into the balloon.

Today we tried to make our own mixture that would get the worms and raisins dancing.
Last week we used Sprite, this week we used baking soda and vinegar.
This time Mrs Aberhart cut the worms into 3. We thought that they were too heavy last time and that is why they didn't go up and down.
First we put baking soda into water and then put the worms into that mixture. We had to leave it soaking for 15 minutes.
So we decided to try it with the raisins. Would they work? We knew they worked with Sprite. We repeated the process - soaking the raisins while we went to lunch and then after the break we put them in the vinegar.
Success!!!! Our raisins were dancing in the vinegar.
You get lots of bubbles and fizzing when you mix the baking soda with the vinegar!
