Arty Farty Friday

Today we were doing self-portraits.

We had to complete the other half of our photos.  We had to look carefully and try to include as much detail as we could.

We then gave ourselves a makeover and used crayons to add some colour.

After we had done one of ourselves we could choose to do another person.

Next week we are doing something Emma wants to try.  Do you have any art ideas you would like to try?

Arty Farty Friday

Today we were experimenting with print making.

We used pieces of string and stuck them onto some lino tiles.  We had different shapes and needed to make sure that most of our tile had a pattern on it.

Then we rolled some paint onto the string and then pressed it onto our paper.

We used different colours.

Briar also used card to make these patterns.

Arty Farty Friday

Today we used an old jigsaw puzzle to make a new piece of art.

First we had to sort the pieces into colours.

Then we split into groups and had to use one colour to make a picture or design on our panel.

Here is our finished piece of artwork.  Some panels were done as a team, other panels each child did their own section.  It looks much better in reality, so come on in and have a look!

Arty Farty Friday

On Friday the 21st October we looked at Pablo Picasso and some of his art work.

We used his style of art to create our own Frankinstein monsters.  Picasso's portraits often have one halfof the face looking at you, and the other half is a side on view.

We were so busy making that Mrs Aberhart forgot to take photos of how we made them.  But here are our finished pieces.

We chose either blue or green monsters.  When we did the eyes, one was looking straight at us and the other one was from the side.

Arty farty Friday

This term we are having Arty Farty Fridays. On Fridays we are going to explore different types of art.

This week we are looking at Barbara Reid.  She writes and illustrates her own books.  Instead of painting she makes her pictures out of plasticine.

She has some videos on Youtube that showed us how she goes about making her pictures.

First we drew a sketch of what we wanted to make.  Then we followed her different techniques and made our own pictures.  Spreading, rolling and adding texture were some of the techniques we used.

Plasticine - we had to mix colours to get the rights shades.  We discovered that red, orange and black made dark brown.  Orange, yellow and black made light brown.

It was hard work kneading the plasticine.  Our fingers and hands got tired.

You build your picture up so that it is like a 3D picture.  First you do the background, then you start to add more details on top.  Sometimes we rolled it into a sausage to make the shape then spread more in between the lines.

Here is Emma's sketch and her finished work.
